After playing as far away as Perth, Australia and winning big awards at Duluth Superior International Film Festival and Weyauwega International Film Festival, the Boulder based documentary OLD MAN is finally set to make its local debut. OLD MAN has been invited to be a part of an exclusive series, affectionately coined ‘Boulder’s Other Film Festival’ (or BOFF), a friendly gauntlet thrown in the direction of Boulder International Film Festival by Glenn Webb of The Boedecker Theater/Dairy Center For The Arts.
OLD MAN tells the story of the rise and fall of ALBUMS ON THE HILL, the (almost) last record store in Boulder, Colorado, a town that was once home to more music stores than any city in America. OLD MAN unfolds as Andrew Schneidkraut, the proprietor of ALBUMS ON THE HILL and father to director Dan Schneidkraut, reflects on his life and his failures through intense personal anecdotes and poetry. Dan tries desperately to reconnect with his father while he recalls difficult stories from his childhood and reflects on his undying reverence for his father through first person narration and striking still imagery. While father and son try to make sense of their lives thus far, the record store at the center of OLD MAN serves as a powerful metaphor for obsolescence – a place of communion and comfort that may never exist again.

Despite international acclaim and its Boulder setting, OLD MAN was inexplicably rejected from Boulder International Film Festival.
When asked about the rejection director Dan Schneidkraut said, “I was astonished that BIFF had no interest in OLD MAN. It’s an incredibly Boulder-centric film, more so than anything they have ever played. I can only speculate that because the movie doesn’t paint an entirely rosy picture of the city that it didn’t fall in line with their mission of portraying Boulder as a utopia above reproach. But BIFF’s disinterest has presented us with a fantastic opportunity - an invitation to premiere at the coolest venue in Colorado! There is no place I’d rather celebrate Andy with the community that loves him than The Boedecker Theater. We’re very grateful to be included in the inaugural BOFF program!”
